Questions

Referral FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us on 01732 521123.

Which cases can I refer?

We accept referrals for primary root canal treatment, retreatment of previously root-filled teeth, teeth with complex or calcified canal anatomy, dental trauma and the diagnosis of unexplained dental pain. If you are unsure whether a case is suitable, call us and we will be happy to talk it through.

How quickly will my patient be seen?

We contact your patient promptly once your referral is received to arrange an assessment. Please tell us in the referral if the patient is in pain or the case is urgent, and we will do our best to prioritise them.

Will my patient return to my practice afterwards?

Yes. We only carry out the treatment you have referred for. Once it is complete, your patient returns to you for their definitive restoration and ongoing care, and we send you a written report.

Who places the final restoration?

Unless you ask us otherwise, the tooth is sealed with a temporary or core restoration and your patient returns to you for the permanent restoration. Our report includes our recommendations for restoring the tooth.

What should I include with my referral?

The patient's contact details, the tooth concerned, a brief history and symptoms, relevant medical history and any recent radiographs. The more information we have, the more efficiently we can plan the assessment.

How are fees handled?

Endodontic treatment is provided privately. Your patient receives a written treatment plan and estimate at their assessment, before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises for them or for you.

Can I discuss a case before referring?

Of course. Call us on 01732 521123 or email info@larkfielddentalpractice.co.uk and we will be glad to discuss the case and advise whether a referral is appropriate.
